Shires Typhoon Rug or Combo

Shires Rugs are designed in the UK and have been a workable solution for our Native Ponies (Shetland and Welsh).   We got our first Shires Rugs in 2017 to trial and I am not complaining as 6 years was a fairly decent life span.  But it is not just the lifespan that has me a fan – the Big thing for me is rubs.  I hate rugs that rub.

Turnouts at a Glance

• Deep Cut for full coverage, Shires turnout rugs avoid the central back seam to keep the rug as waterproof as possible. Taped seams and a host of eco-conscious fabric technologies ensure the horse stays dry and comfortable in the field.  Note: Having a filling improves the waterproofness of the rug! (remember the tent affect).
• Durable water repellent (DWR) coating are applied to the fabric at the point of manufacture to produce highly durable weatherproofing.
• Compliance with the latest [UK] regulations ensures coating are PFC Free, protecting the environment without compromise to your horse’s comfort
• ShireTex Advanced Fabric Technology – Tough and durable advanced breathable fabrics feature a specially formulated hydrophilic coating designed to attract excess sweat and moisture. The difference in air temperature between the inside and the outside of the rug draws this sweat/moisture to the outside of the rug where it dissipates into the atmosphere.
• These rugs are so well cut they do not require leg straps.  We have no issues with these rugs moving!

Shires Rugs basically come in 3 Ranges – Typhoon, Tempest and Highlander (Original and Plus)

Typhoon – This is the entry level collection.  We have been rugging these on the Shetlands for a year.  Had a couple of 2cm rips from playful activity but no total decimation (But I do not recommend these for rug terrorists)
